| Got 22 Days? Beyoncé and Her Trainer Have Your New Eating Plan - The Root Posted: 25 Jul 2019 07:29 AM PDT ![]() We all saw it—the grueling journey from postnatal (with twins!) 'Yoncé to Homecoming cutoffs 'Yoncé—and frankly, I, for one, instantly decided I didn't have the stamina (seriously, the woman is damn near supernatural). But to hear it straight from the Queen's mouth in the promo for her newest venture, 22 Days Nutrition, "getting the weight off was so much easier than me getting back in shape." What does that mean? It means we couldn't stan for the slim-thickness of the superstar without the guidance of longtime trainer Marco Borges. It was Borges who assisted Beyoncé in dropping the remainder of her Sir and Rumi baby weight in the 44-day rehearsal runup to Coachella 2018, supplying her with a vegan-based nutrition plan that purportedly not only helped Bey slim down but gave her the energy to push through for the performance of a lifetime—and now, they're sharing the plan with the world. Per the website:
According to the trailer dropped last night like a new single, Bey started her 44-day, two consecutive 22 Days Nutrition cycles at 175 pounds (which some of us might call our goal weight, but I digress). Notably, she doesn't reveal at what weight she ended that journey, but we do know that before it was over she fit back into what she calls the "Wonder Woman" costume—and anyone who has ever tried to fit back into their favorite "freakum dress" or "skinny jeans" knows that is one of the best feelings ever. (Meanwhile, was it just me, or did Borges give a far more enthusiastic reaction to the reveal than husband Jay-Z? I guess Borges was sharing credit for the transformation, so there's that.) Obviously, this is far from the first time Beyoncé, who famously sported a "Kale" sweatshirt (and little else) in her "7/11" video, has touted a plant-based diet. In fact, earlier this year she and Jay launched the Greenprint Project, which granted one lucky winner concert tickets for life for taking baby steps into the vegan lifestyle the couple adopted several years ago. It's also not the first time Bey has been linked to a weight-loss plan—remember when the decades-old Master Cleanse was renamed "The Beyoncé Diet" after she used it to achieve Supremes-level sleekness for Dreamgirls? Advertisement So, what happens in 22 Days? I did a little recon on the site, so you don't have to (you're welcome). For the surprisingly low introductory price of $99/year (typically $168 annually or $14 monthly, also an option), the plan—which catalogues your likes, dislikes and allergies, available time to cook, and even the appliances in your kitchen—gives you personalized food recommendations as well as access to a line of "USDA Organic, Non-GMO, plant-based (vegan), delicious products." Advertisement And yes, you can even specifically follow Beyoncé's plan. (Insert requisite "Get Me Bodied" quip here.) However, there's unfortunately no personal chef included. Real talk? This might be the most affordable Beyhive merch yet, as well as the most beneficial to both the body and the environment, as vegan diets do have the lowest carbon footprint—and lower our cancer risk, according to Harvard Health. With that in mind, will this meat lover be trying the 22 Days program? For $99 a year, I'm admittedly curious—especially as I have my own Homecoming to get ready for (read: the 2019 Root 100 gala). And while there aren't any cutoffs or intricate choreography in my future, switching up my nutrition game by cutting out a couple of beloved food groups for 22 days (oh, how I'll miss you, cheese and meat—is sugar a food group?) may be exactly what I need to get this body back in formation—and back into my favorite freakum dress. |
| Posted: 24 Jul 2019 01:00 PM PDT BEYONCE may have a starring role in The Lion King movie, but she is struggling to keep her claws in to her title as Queen Bey. The singer curated and produced an album to go alongside the new Disney film but it has flopped — being downloaded just 949 times in the UK in the first five days. I can reveal Bey, who voices Nala in the film, was paid £25million for the movie, official soundtrack and this accompanying album, but it has failed to strike a chord with fans. She sings on 13 tracks on The Lion King: The Gift, with guests including her husband Jay Z, Pharrell Williams and Kendrick Lamar. But in a massive blow to Disney, she is now being outsold four to one on downloads by Brit newcomer Freya Ridings. Freya's self-titled debut, which came out on Friday with The Gift, had been downloaded 4,083 times by the end of play on Tuesday — putting her at No2 in the charts. A Disney insider said: "Bosses did everything they could to get Beyonce on board because they know she is so loved. "There has been a lot of buzz around the film and Beyonce's involvement but her spin-off album has been massively disappointing. "The Greatest Showman's soundtrack was the biggest-selling album of 2018, and Disney had hoped that getting someone as huge as Beyonce to do an album like this could match its success. "But her records clearly don't have the pulling power they once did. For someone like Beyonce, who is seen as an unstoppable force in music, it's remarkable that she is being beaten in the charts by an emerging talent like Freya." Because The Lion King: The Gift features various artists, it won't be eligible for the main album chart when it is announced tomorrow, but if it were, it would not be making the top ten. A year ago her album with Jay Z, Everything Is Love, peaked at No5, her worst first week of record sales ever in the UK. They also struggled to sell out their stadium tour last summer. Last weekend The Lion King grossed £16.7million at the UK box office. Perhaps she should just stick to the flicks.

Charli cannot bare it in the heatKEEPING cool during the heatwave can be tricky, but Charli XCX seems to have found a way. She shared this photo on Instagram, in which she almost bares her boob, as she celebrated selling out the O2 Academy Brixton. The pop star will perform at the South London venue on Halloween, and I've heard she will ask her fans to follow an angels and devils dress code. She wrote online: "London is where I started as a performer and artist and it's always been a scary city for me when it comes to playing live. "I always get most nervous there, I always stand backstage thinking, 'OMG no one will be out there when I walk on stage' (I usually still think this at every venue – even if I know it's sold out). So this means sooooo much to me." Before kicking off her tour, she will release her third studio album, Charli, on September 13, featuring her new single Gone, with Christine and the Queens.
BizbitJENNIFER Lawrence will play a Mafia wife who becomes a police infor-mant in a movie adap-tation of the Pulitzer Prize-winning true-crime story Mob Girl. The Oscar winner will also produce the film, about Arlyne Brickman's life. Natalie's bump-er yearNATALIE Imbruglia is expecting her first baby at 44 thanks to a sperm donor. The Nineties pop sensation made the announcement on Instagram with this picture showing her bump. She said: "I'm expecting my first child this Autumn . . . this has been something I have wanted for a very long time and I'm blessed that this is possible with the help of IVF and a sperm donor. "I'm so excited about this next adventure." She also announced she had signed a new record deal with BMG – who last year helped fellow Aussie Kylie Minogue score her first No1 album in eight years. Natalie's new album will be out next year, soon after she becomes a mum. Sly rocking onHOLLYWOOD legend Sylvester Stallone is dusting off his boxing gloves and preparing to go into the ring as Rocky Balboa one final time. In a new interview, the actor confirmed he's working on a script for the ninth film in the popular franchise. Sly told Variety mag the film would follow the retired champ after he meets a young fighter living in America illegally. Irwin Winkler, who has produced all the Rocky films since the first in 1976, confirmed the news. He said: "We're very high on it and anxious to make it." Sly also con-firmed he was involved in discussions about a Rocky TV spin-off, which would follow the boxer before he went into the ring.

| Posted: 10 Jul 2019 12:00 AM PDT ![]() YouTube Disney and Beyoncé fans got a surprise last night, ahead of the release of a live-action Lion King reboot, with the release of a new single from the film and pop star, called "Spirit." The song comes from a new album, titled The Lion King: The Gift, that will accompany the film's release next week and was announced just after the film's world premiere last night. According to a statement, the album was produced and curated by Beyoncé, who says of the project: "Each song was written to reflect the film's storytelling that gives the listener a chance to imagine their own imagery, while listening to a new contemporary interpretation." The new song opens with a call-and-response, and carries both melodic and lyrical themes from the original 1994 movie; talking winds, gathering stars and opening heavens. "Spirit, can you hear it calling? / Yeah / Your destiny is coming close, stand up and fight / So go into that far off land / And be one with the great I am, I am," she calls. Aside from global star Beyoncé playing the character Nala, the film features James Earl Jones (Mufasa), Keegan Michael-Key (Kamari), Donald Glover (Simba) and more. To promote it, Glover appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live yesterday in a lion onesie — and confessed he had trouble singing in the same room as Beyoncé. "I requested not to be," Glover laughed, "I did not want to be looking into Beyoncé's eyes while doing this." |
